1 · Foundation
The game itself — tricks, trumps, counting your hand. Start here with zero prior knowledge; we don’t even assume you know what a trick is.
2 · ACOL Bidding Basics
The system played in most British clubs — Weak No Trump, four-card majors.
3 · SAYC Bidding Basics
Standard American — Strong No Trump, five-card majors. Take this one or ACOL, whichever your club plays.
4 · Intermediate Bidding & Conventions
Stayman, transfers, overcalls, doubles, pre-empts — the two systems rejoin here.
5 · Slam & Beyond
For the keen — slam bidding and the sequences that need real precision. Marked optional in Bridge IQ; never counts against you.
6 · Declarer Play
Planning the hand, establishing suits, drawing trumps, entries, and the advanced techniques that turn a failing contract into a making one. This is where contracts are actually made.
7 · Defence
Opening leads, signals, counting the hand, and the card play that takes contracts down. You defend half of every session — and most club players have never studied it properly. This is where the biggest improvement usually lies.

Questions people ask
I’ve never played bridge. Is this really for me?
Yes. Foundation starts by assuming you don’t even know what a trick is, and takes you step by step to playing your first full hand. If you’ve played Whist or any trick-taking game, you already know more than you think.
What actually makes Bridge IQ different from a normal course-progress bar?
A progress bar tells you how much you’ve read. Bridge IQ tells you how much you can actually do — because it’s built on your real quiz results, not page-views. It’s the difference between “I finished the chapter” and “I got it right.”
Do I have to use Bridge IQ?
No. Your quizzes feed into it automatically, but you never have to look at it. Work through the lessons at your own pace, and it’s there whenever you want to see how you’re getting on.
Do I have to take the courses in order?
No. Everything is unlocked from day one. Bridge IQ suggests a sensible order, but if your partnership needs opening leads fixed this week, go straight to opening leads.
I already play. Is this too basic for me?
No — the courses go in depth into areas most club players never get round to learning, and they’re fully developed, built on years of research. The biggest one is defence: you defend half of every hand you ever play, and it’s the part almost nobody actually studies. Take a couple of quizzes and let Bridge IQ show you where you stand. And when you’re ready to go further, Slam & Beyond covers precision bidding well past what most club players ever cover.
Which system should I learn — ACOL or SAYC?
Play the system your club plays — in the UK and much of the Commonwealth that’s ACOL, in North America it’s SAYC. If you’re playing online, you can learn either, and ACOL is generally considered easier for beginners. Tell Bridge IQ which one and the other is left out of your score entirely.
